Nebraska Drug Rehab

Your Treatment Options + State Drug Abuse Facts

Introduction

Drug abuse is a problem that continues to escalate in this country including the use of alcohol and prescription drugs. Current reports show there are around 2.1 million drug-related visits to the ER each year. The state of Nebraska ranks low when it comes to drug overdoses with a mortality rate of just 6.7 per 100,000 people, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t drug abuse there. The path to recovery is clear for most users, though. From entry into a drug treatment facility to sober living houses, Nebraskans addicted to any substance can find relief.

Type & Length of Care

The type and length of care will depend on the program offered by the different facilities, but there are a number of varieties available.

Long Term Treatment Programs (90-Day)

A long-term residential care program lasts approximately three months, allowing for comprehensive in-patient care. The residents spend the next 90-days interacting with peers at various stages of recovery and with therapists and doctors to aid in the treatment process. Treatments include an intake and evaluation period, detox as the drug leaves the body and therapy protocols designed to deal with the underlying cause of the addiction such as depression. The 90-day program allows for constant supervision, as well.

Short Term Treatment Programs (28/30 Days)

The short-term options work much like the longer 90-day treatment plan but done in fewer days. The short plan is not the best choice for everyone because it doesn’t allow enough time for some people to manage the problems associated with their addiction. As with the longer program, the 28 to 30-day treatment option is done as an inpatient, so those recovering have 24-hour supervision and live with others going through rehab at the same time.

Outpatient/Inpatient

There are two options available for drug treatment. The outpatient care system does not provide constant supervision like you see with both long and short-term treatment programs. It does allow for group and individual therapy, however; and is a resource for those who prefer to live independent of the care facility.

Inpatient refers to programs that require residential care. They submerge the patient completely in an environment designed to promote recovery.

Residential Treatment Services

Residential treatment services work to provide a safe and stable environment for those recovering from drug abuse. Each facility offers specialized services geared to promote good mental health and sobriety.

Detox

Detox, or detoxification, refers to the safe management of the physical side effects that occur when a person stops taking a drug. They vary based on the dependency but may include nausea, vomiting, tremors and even hallucinations. Some programs will use medicine to allow for gradual detoxification, so the process is more comfortable and less likely to lead to complications.

Sober-living House

A sober-living house is an interim facility for individuals going from rehab to mainstream living. This is the place that people who have gone through a short or long term program use to transition back into society safely and without pressure.

Dual Diagnosis

Dual diagnosis defines comorbid conditions that contribute to the drug addiction. It is very common for individuals who use drugs to have an underlying mental health issue such as depression or bipolar disorder. They start taking drugs or drinking alcohol as a way to manage their symptoms.

A dual diagnosis program allows them to deal with both the addiction and the condition that may have triggered it. Without the opportunity to face both problems simultaneously, the resident may fall back into the cycle of abuse.

Commonly Abused & Treated Drugs

Alcohol tops the list of abused drugs in the state of Nebraska. It is often used with a secondary substance such as smoked cocaine. Meth is an ongoing problem in this state, as well, especially in rural areas. On the low end of the scale is heroin, a rare addiction in the Cornhusker state.

Conclusion

The road to sobriety is a complex one and trying to take that journey alone makes it that much harder. For many, the answer is a new environment – one that is free of the reminders of their addiction, so traveling to a facility in another area can lead to better outcomes. Whether staying in Nebraska or heading to another state, the key is getting the rehab process started.
